RIT Packaging Science

On September 28, the results of the Paperboard Packaging 2015
University Student Design Challenge

Competition was announced at PackExpo in Las Vegas.

The RIT Graphic Design and Packaging Science collaborative submission
“The Book of Life/Sugar Skull” led by Lorrie Frear of CIAS and Bill Wynkoop
of Packaging Science received the Third Place Award in this national competition,
which includes the best packaging science programs in the United States.
RIT submitted 9 entries from this collaboration into the competition.
Another RIT submission, “McQueens’s Garage, from the Toy Story series,
received the Honorable Mention Award for its interaction with the enclosed toy.


The seven member jury selected the winners from 53 entries
that included notable university design and packaging science programs such as:
Chowan University, Ryerson University, University of Florida, Virginia Tech,
Michigan State University, Wisconsin/Stout, Clemson University, RIT,
FIT, Cal Poly, and San Jose State University. Guest juror was
RIT Packaging Science alumna and Hasbro packaging engineer Robin Matusik.


FIT’s submission “Dracula” received Second Place Honors and
Cal Poly’s “Star Wars Sabre” was awarded First Place. Each winning university program
and student teams received monetary awards for their outstanding efforts.


In addition, The Book of Life/Sugar Skull from RIT was selected as
the People’s Choice Award by those who were in attendance at the awards luncheon.
